Description

Handcrafted by Shannon Irish Collectors' Dolls of Dublin, Ireland, this porcelain boy doll "Seamus" comes dressed in traditional Irish folk costume. His head, arms and legs are meticulously crafted in the finest porcelain. His glass eyes are hand-set, and his facial features are lovingly painted by hand.

Seamus's Story: This handsome lad is called Seamus-- the Irish for James. He is cozily dressed in traditional clothing typical to the Aran Islands. These islands, where Gaelic is still spoken, are situated on the most westerly edge of Europe, across from Galway Bay. His sweater is made from home-spun wool and is a hand-knit replica of the traditional Aran style garments, showing the moss and cable stitches. It is knit in bainin wool (the undyed yarn) and is guaranteed to keep out the wind and weather of these exposed islands. His trousers, scarf and cap are home-spun in a course material called tweed. Traditionally this material would have been dyed from seaweed, peat or onionskins to give it its brownish color. Completing his outfit, Seamus wears around his waist a brightly woven wool belt called a crios. On his journey today, Seamus had discovered an orphan. This sweet little black-faced lamb now feels safe in his arms and is sure to receive a warm bed beside an open turf fire tonight.

11.5 inches high. This is a fine quality collectors' doll meant for display, not a toy. The wooden stand pictured is included, and Seamus comes handsomely boxed, ready for gift-giving. The story above is included on the hang tag.
